A Day at Goodwood: The Eagle Sprint

Hillclimbing.org, powered by Insite Graphics, headed to Goodwood for the Eagle Sprint, organised by the Brighton & Hove Motor Club.

It is difficult to think of many better settings for a day of motorsport. Goodwood brings its own unmistakable atmosphere and history, and the Eagle Sprint offered competitors the opportunity to take to the famous circuit with an interesting and varied field of predominantly roadgoing cars.

A Great Venue for Grassroots Motorsport

The event was well organised by the Brighton & Hove Motor Club, with a relaxed paddock and a good variety of machinery taking part.

Entries could perhaps have been a little stronger, although with the event falling in the middle of the summer holiday period, that may have played its part.

Nevertheless, events such as the Eagle Sprint are an important part of the speed-event calendar, providing an accessible way for competitors to enjoy their cars in competition at one of Britain's most celebrated motorsport venues.

A Familiar Name Behind the Wheel

There was also an interesting guest appearance during the day.

Alex Brundle took the wheel of the Ireland Motorsport Mini Cooper and put his considerable experience to good use, recording a 98-second run.

Brundle, well known from circuit racing and endurance motorsport, brought a little extra interest to an already enjoyable day's competition — and demonstrated the broad appeal of sprinting and hillclimbing to drivers from across the motorsport world.

Keeping Speed Motorsport Accessible

One of the pleasures of an event like the Eagle Sprint is the variety.

While the spectacular specialist machinery at the sharp end of hillclimbing inevitably attracts attention, grassroots speed events also give owners of much more familiar roadgoing cars an opportunity to compete.

Add Goodwood as the backdrop and you have all the ingredients for a thoroughly enjoyable day's motorsport.

A great venue, a well-run event and another reminder of the variety that makes British speed motorsport so much fun.
