Motorsport photography is all about capturing that split-second magic - the blur of speed, the emotion and the raw energy of the climb. It's invaluable in that it can immortalise that fleeting moment of adrenaline fuelled success, letting us feel it again and again.
One of the best photographers in the field is Stuart Wing of Capture Your Car Photography. Stuart has been a motorsport photographer for many years and has a distinctive, professional style which is why so many of his images have been published in magazines and publications. We too owe Stuart a debt of gratitude for his consistent support during the creation of Hillclimbing.org - we truly couldn't have done it without him!
We were keen to interview Stuart about his standout work and to find out more about his passion for hillclimbing and what first drew him to motorsport. Here are a few questions we put to him ...
1. What drew you to photography and how did you get started as a motorsport photographer?
I have always been a keen photographer bit only as a hobby and then I went to Bromyard Festival of Speed and someone saw one of my pictures and wanted to purchase a print of it. That is when my part time business started and that was in 2017.
2. Is hillclimbing the only form of motorsport you shoot? What was it that drew you to to the sport?
I also shoot rallying and circuit racing but hillclimbing is my main thing. It first started when I visited Shelsley Walsh for Classic Nostalgia in 2015 and I went back the time after time after that. I just loved how close you could get to the action and around the cars in the paddock. The hillclimb family are just an amazing collection of people.
3. Can you tell us a little bit more about your kit and the process you use to capture such amazing race footage?
I have recently gone mirrorless and purchased a Nikon Z9 which I absolutely love
4. Can drivers purchase your images? If so how can they contact you?
They can indeed, yes. I can be contacted via email at captureyourcarphotography@outlook.com or via message on Facebook or Instagram
5. Are you looking forward to 2026 season? If so, which races will you hope to attend?
I am always desperate for the season to start and this year is no exception. I think we are in for another really close battle in the championship. I'm planning on being a regular at the Midlands hills and I can't imagine I will miss the chance to visit Harewood again this year
A huge thank you to Stuart for his time and expertise and we hope you have a great season Stuart!
